Labetalol Hydrochloride Tablets

Genbet (Labetalol) is a combined alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptor blocker used for the management of hypertension, including pregnancy-induced hypertension and hypertensive emergencies. It effectively reduces blood pressure without significant reduction in heart rate or cardiac output.

Mechanism of Action:

Labetalol blocks:

• β1 and β2 receptors – leading to decreased heart rate and myocardial contractility
• α1 receptors – resulting in vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance
  This dual action makes Labetalol ideal for acute and chronic blood pressure control.

Indications:

• Essential hypertension (mild to moderate)
• Severe hypertension
• Hypertensive emergencies
• Pregnancy-induced hypertension / preeclampsia
• Postoperative hypertension.

Dosage and Administration:

• Genbet 100: Usual starting dose is 100 mg twice daily.

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness or fatigue
• Nausea or indigestion
• Nasal congestion
• Postural hypotension
• Bradycardia
• Cold extremities

Precautions:

• Use cautiously in patients with diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms)
