Genbet (Labetalol) is a combined alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptor blocker used for the management of hypertension, including pregnancy-induced hypertension and hypertensive emergencies. It effectively reduces blood pressure without significant reduction in heart rate or cardiac output.
Mechanism of Action:
Labetalol blocks:
- β1 and β2 receptors – leading to decreased heart rate and myocardial contractility
- α1 receptors – resulting in vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance
This dual action makes Labetalol ideal for acute and chronic blood pressure control.
Indications:
- Essential hypertension (mild to moderate)
- Severe hypertension
- Hypertensive emergencies
- Pregnancy-induced hypertension / preeclampsia
- Postoperative hypertension.
