Gencure-50 contains Clomifene Citrate 50 mg, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to treat infertility in women. It stimulates ovulation by acting on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to increase the secretion of gonadotropins (FSH and LH), thereby promoting the growth and release of a mature egg (ovum).
Therapeutic Class:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) – Ovulation Induction Agent
Indications:
- Female infertility due to anovulation or oligo-ovulation
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) with anovulatory infertility
- Luteal phase deficiency (as determined by physician)
- Unexplained infertility (as part of ovulation induction protocols)
Mechanism of Action:
Clomifene binds to estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, blocking negative feedback by estrogen. This leads to increased secretion of GnRH, which in turn stimulates the release of FSH and LH, promoting follicular development and triggering ovulation.
Dosage & Administration:
- Usual dose: 50 mg once daily for 5 consecutive days, starting on day 2 to 5 of the menstrual cycle.
- Maximum dose: May be increased to 100 mg/day in subsequent cycles if ovulation does not occur.
- Treatment duration should not exceed 6 cycles without ovulation.
Note: Dosage and treatment course should always be supervised by a healthcare professional.
